Element scan of the Amsterdam ArenA seats

During the run-up to the 2020 European Championships, Amsterdam ArenA intends to replace all of the stadium seats in a socially responsible manner. So Amsterdam ArenA has set up a project together with Better Future Factory and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences to determine the best way of recycling the seats. These parties asked EMMTEC services to perform an element scan. The objective was to identify the materials used for the seats and the feasibility of creating something new from those materials. The scan revealed that the polypropylene backrest and seat bucket were ideal for use in digital production equipment, such as 3D printers. Students of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences are now going to use a 3D printer to produce new products from the polypropylene parts. A number of the seats will be sold to Ajax fans and the remainder will be recycled by a waste processor to produce new raw materials.
